About
Safety & Campus
Providing a safe and secure campus is taken very seriously at Saint Andrew’s.
Designed for each stage
The design of our Center gives children of different developmental stages their own classrooms and playgrounds, assuring an enriched, stimulating, age-appropriate, attentive, nurturing and protected environment for each child.
Center security
The entire perimeter of the Children’s Center is fenced, and the gates are secured with keypads. Staff are trained in emergency preparedness by the Irvine Police Department, and disaster preparedness is practiced every year.
Health and well-being
- Every teaching team member maintains a current CPR and First Aid certificate and is trained in EpiPen administration
- Staff are trained in universal precautions, sanitizing classrooms and medication administration
- Annual height, weight, dental, vision and hearing screenings for all children 2 years and above
- A nut-free kitchen: nuts are never served, and allergies and dietary restrictions are noted, with substitutions made when possible
Emergency preparedness
Saint Andrew’s Children’s Center has an Emergency Preparedness Plan, reviewed every year by the Director, for situations from earthquakes and fires to severe weather, utility failures, medical emergencies and threats to the campus.
- Children and staff practice two fire drills, two earthquake drills and two lockdown drills every year, and each drill is timed and logged
- Preschool teachers talk with children about drills at circle time, using stories and age-appropriate books
- Staff are trained on the plan twice a year, and every classroom has a walkie-talkie, a phone and an emergency “Go Bag”
- Cabinets and heavy furniture are bolted to the walls, and the fire alarm is professionally monitored
- The Center keeps food and water to care for children and staff for at least three days
- In an emergency we contact families through the HiMama app (text and email), by phone, and on this website when possible
- Children are released only to adults authorized on their emergency form, and a staff member stays with every child until they’re picked up
- Families receive the full plan at enrollment and every year through the HiMama app; a printed copy is available from the office
